Summary

THIS HIGHLY GIFTABLE DELUXE EDITION OF THE BESTSELLER INCLUDES THREE ALL-NEW CHAPTERS

Motherhood is hard。 In a world of five-step lists and silver-bullet solutions to become perfect parents, mothers are burdened with mixed messages about who they are and what choices they should make。 If you feel pulled between high-fives and hard words, with culture’s solutions only raising more questions, you’re not alone。

But there is hope。

You might think that Scripture doesn’t have much to say about the food you make for breakfast, how you view your postpartum body, or what school choice you make for your children, but a deeper look reveals that the Bible provides the framework for finding answers to your specific questions about modern motherhood。

Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler help you understand and apply the gospel to common issues moms face so you can connect your Sunday morning faith to the Monday morning tantrum。

Discover how closely the gospel connects with today’s motherhood。 Join Emily and Laura as they walk through the redemptive story and reveal how the gospel applies to your everyday life, bringing hope, freedom, and joy in every area of motherhood。

I really liked the premise of this book - that is, that the gospel can and should be applied to every aspect of our lives。 But the execution fell short。 It's so repetitive, for one thing, and it's clearly written by and for moms of littles (which, fine, I fall into that category 。。。 but I'm sure the gospel applies when you're parenting teens, too)。 More importantly, I wanted more depth (talking about not getting the birth story you want or not obsessing over your postpartum body or not judging o I really liked the premise of this book - that is, that the gospel can and should be applied to every aspect of our lives。 But the execution fell short。 It's so repetitive, for one thing, and it's clearly written by and for moms of littles (which, fine, I fall into that category 。。。 but I'm sure the gospel applies when you're parenting teens, too)。 More importantly, I wanted more depth (talking about not getting the birth story you want or not obsessing over your postpartum body or not judging others for how/what they feed their kids is fine, I guess, but what about how the gospel applies to PPD or loss or discipline issues or infertility or, or or?), and better gospel application than "the most important thing is that Jesus died, and one day he'll come back and all these hard things will be over。" It's not that those things aren't true。 But I'd love to have seen less minimizing of the choices we make (because they DO matter!) and more recognition of the idea that the gospel can and should inform and guide and live within those choices。I don't mean to be unkind in this review。 I think the authors' hearts are in the right place, and based on the slew of positive reviews and the popularity of their podcast (which I haven't listened to), they're meeting a need。 There's nothing wrong or harmful in the book, and I'm sure many will find it encouraging and beneficial。 But it just wasn't for me。 。。。more

There were some things I liked about the book。 It was biblical and beautifully presented the gospel。 But it wasn’t very deep and certainly catered to a more privileged population of the world。 It was encouraging。 But it just seemed to skim the surface。

Angelena

Wonderful inspiration。 I love listening to these mothers。

Motherhood is hard and this book keeps you focused on the gospel in every motherhood situation。 Highly recommend!

This book is hard for me to review because I’d give it a 3。5-4 stars, but I’d recommend every mom read it。 Go into it knowing the content is good, but a little redundant。 The redundant messages are needed though。 My biggest struggle with this book is that it seemed very geared to moms who don’t work out of the house and who have husbands who never seem to help around the house。 Overall, definitely worth the read。

I felt like the authors knew me and exactly what I am going through as a mom with two littles。 It was so good for my heart and helped me get through hard days!

Katherine Zinke

So many relatable motherhood examples。 Many times I found myself thinking “Other moms think about that too?” Even better, they teach you how to apply the gospel to them! I’ll be returning to this book again。

Great read。 A little repetitious at points and the writing style sometimes feels unnecessarily "fluffy," but the authors are winsome, humble, and connect well with the reader。 There's no question that they love the Lord and are passionate about helping fellow moms love our gospel faith through the motherhood experience。 I love how Christ-centered their focus is!Their anecdotes are relatable, and they draw compelling parallels between common experiences mom's face & spiritual truths。 If I were t Great read。 A little repetitious at points and the writing style sometimes feels unnecessarily "fluffy," but the authors are winsome, humble, and connect well with the reader。 There's no question that they love the Lord and are passionate about helping fellow moms love our gospel faith through the motherhood experience。 I love how Christ-centered their focus is!Their anecdotes are relatable, and they draw compelling parallels between common experiences mom's face & spiritual truths。 If I were to be nit-picky, the application ("call to action") that they draw from the book can come across a little as "just do it" (i。e。 "believe the right things," "know the Bible," "have meaningful relationships with other believers") - these are all so good & true, but to some readers it may be taken as "behavior modification" in our human strength。 I would have appreciated a clearer call to depend on the Holy Spirit for our sanctification as we engage in these crucial spiritual disciplines, and a clearer call to be in fellowship with God (abiding in Christ in relationship) as we read our Bibles, get connected to Christian fellowship, etc。 I don't think the authors meant for readers to draw these conclusions (to "lean on their own strength for sanctification"), I just think it could have been clearer。All this being said, I think this is a nit-picky point on my part, and overall the read was really encouraging and great! 。。。more

This was exactly the book my mama heart needed right now。 After leaving social media and really starting to invest in my family, I thought things would be perfect。 Are they? No。 Are they immensely better? Yes x 1 million。 But I daily need the reminder to apply the gospel。 To how I parent。 To how I friend。 To how I volunteer。 To how I wife。 It’s easy to see the gospel as something separate in our lives - instead of seeing it in everything we do。 That’s why this book was fresh air to me。 We need t This was exactly the book my mama heart needed right now。 After leaving social media and really starting to invest in my family, I thought things would be perfect。 Are they? This book was good, but it’s not one of those “I need to have my own copy of this gem。” I will definitely read again, probably in a few years when my kids are older—I can see it hitting differently when I’m in a broader phase of motherhood!

Meaghan Recollet

This book was so encouraging, convicting and thought-provoking as I prepare to move into this new season。Thank you Miika :)

Natalie Lathrop

This book is great for an overview of living as a Christian Mom for a Bible/book study。 They do a very good job of covering a broad spectrum (because as moms know, mothers come in a wide variety) and ask really good questions to spur meaningful conversations between believers。

Simply beautiful, in all ways。This gorgeous wonder of a book applies the gospel message to our every day, from body image, our schooling choices for our children, studying the word, and more。 It’s taken me a year to finish, but I’ve gained so much from it。 They also have a pretty great podcast, too。 Spoiler alert: the gospel applies to everything。

Miranda Baise

This book changed motherhood for me in the best way。

I’m just left wanting more with this book。 At the end of every chapter, I just want it to be deeper。 It felt like the authors tried really hard to not offend anyone and leave room at the table for absolutely anyone。 So if that’s what you want, maybe this book is for you。 I gave 3 stars because I do think the one time this book is helpful is in a group setting。 We used it for a book club, and we ended up having some very good conversations jump-started from the chapters in this book。 It is good f I’m just left wanting more with this book。 At the end of every chapter, I just want it to be deeper。 It felt like the authors tried really hard to not offend anyone and leave room at the table for absolutely anyone。 So if that’s what you want, maybe this book is for you。 I gave 3 stars because I do think the one time this book is helpful is in a group setting。 We used it for a book club, and we ended up having some very good conversations jump-started from the chapters in this book。 It is good for an overview of a subject and some questions to begin a conversation。 I truly enjoyed and gained a lot from the book club。 I was just disappointed with the actual book。 。。。more

The gospel changes everything - even our mothering。2022 A book about parenting

Fantastic-filled with truth—fully relatable and filled with hope!! Make sure you get your mom friends to read this book。 What a blessing!!

Alisa Jeffus

I read this with my mom friends from church and it was far more beneficial to read & discuss together as a group。 I don’t think I personally could’ve gotten through each chapter without the encouragement to talk about it together。 I’ve enjoyed the relationship building that this book brought about more than the content/style of the book itself。 So I’d highly recommend reading this in community。

Meghan

Read this for my mom’s group。 Loved it。 No fluff, gospel-centered, convicting yet hopeful read。

Anna Jo

This is such a great book on motherhood and the gospel! It made me fall in love with the gospel story all over again!

Natalie Davis

Chapters had me thinking about more about life as a SAHM and how it relates to the gospel than ever before。 The mundane moments, food choices, and self care chapters *chefs kiss*👌🏼

Molly

Good reminders to bring your focus back to God through your motherhood journey。 I will probably reread it again

Jennifer Cleigh

So practical! Something in here for everyone mom, no matter the age! And the best part is how the authors point back to scripture every single time。 Absolute must-read (frankly, must-own! And then re-read yearly。。。😬)

Tori

Great book! It’s really fun to do as a group with other moms!

Alexis

Will likely be reading this every year for the next several years。

Kamryn Green

A refreshing read for any mom especially moms of small children。

Emily Steel

Thank you court!!! Just what I needed!

Liz Krieg

As someone expecting their first child, this devotional helped me in preparing my heart for motherhood。 I look forward to reading this book again later because it will definitely be even more relatable once I’m actually in the season of parenting。

Emmie Seals

Lots of things to ponder throughout this book。 This is certainly not a book that you can just plow through。 Keep a pen handy and underline and note as much as you want!

Kelsey McGinnis

Honestly a must read for all moms, hopeful moms and soon to be moms。
